A Minimum of 98 Palestinian Individuals Have Died in Custody Since October 2023, Israeli Data Shows
Based on figures released by Israel, a minimum of 98 detainees from Palestine have perished while in custody beginning in October 2023. A human rights group located in Israel has stated that the actual toll is probably significantly higher, due to numerous of missing individuals in Gaza.

“Although we are offering documentation for a higher number of fatalities than once estimated, this is not a full picture,” he stated. “We are sure that there are yet detainees who lost their lives in detention that we are unaware of.”
Civilian Deaths
Restricted government records shows that the majority of Palestinian detainees from Gaza who lost their lives in detention were ordinary citizens, based on a parallel investigation.

“In spite of this significant total of deaths, over two years not one individual has been detained,” the spokesperson stated. “There have been no indictments over any fatality.
“While these practices continue to be enforced, each Palestinian individual in detention faces risk, also the those in good health, also the young ones who have no medical issues.”
High-Profile Cases
Certain fatalities in custody have been high profile, such as a middle-aged hospital director who died in detention after 120 days in confinement.
An inmate held with the deceased stated that he was led to the courtyard by correctional officers just prior to his death, clearly wounded and naked from the waist down. His body has not been repatriated to Gaza.
Further inmates who lost their lives in confinement by Israeli authorities are unidentified.
